School board hears presentation on integrated learning system

The Perryton School Board was updated on plans for reopening schools in the fall, heard a presentation on an integrated learning management system and hired a new assistant superintendent Tuesday evening.

Supt. James Mireles talked about the upcoming school year, concerning COVID-19. He said Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath and Gov. Greg Abbott have indicated that instruction in the fall will be a combination of in-person and remote online methods. Parents will be given a choice whether to send their children to school or do distance learning.

Mireles added that the Perryton ISD survey showed between 2-4% of parents were afraid to send their students back. He added that if they do learn from home, parents will have to be accountable for the students doing the required work.

He noted that instruction in the fall will definitely be a combination of in-person and remote online methods.
