Knox wins county spelling bee, advances to regional competition

Williams Intermediate Elementary School held its annual Junior Spelling Bee on Friday, March 6, crowning fifth grader Nathan Knox as the champion speller.

A total of 54 students from fourth and fifth grades entered the competition. Williams teacher Robin Willingham served as the pronouncer for the event and began with a practice round to get the students comfortable with the rules of the bee.

Once the competition began, 16 students were eliminated in the first round. Round two had nine contestants who were eliminated. An additional 13 went out in round three, and after the fourth round, only four spellers remained.
