Rette powerlifters qualify for regional meet

The PHS powerlifting teams competed in Highland Park on Saturday in the last qualifying meet for the girls to reach the regional meet. The Ranger team competed with only three lifters and finished second. The Rangerettes took 19 lifters of which most lifted in the same weight class. The Rettes took second place as well.

For the Rangers, Petey Martinez was first in the 181-pound class. Ubaldo Tarango lifted to first in the 242-pound group. Miguel Celis placed second in the 275-pound class.

In the girls’ side, Leslie Morales was first in her class. Others in her group from Perryton included Evelyn Becerril (fifth), Fatima Estrada (sixth), Karyme Rojo (ninth). Alyson Ortiz easily won her class. Other Rettes in her group included Vanessa Hernandez (second), Lupita Ramirez (third), Maria Francia (eighth) and Lilliana Lopez (14th).
