The Jennie June Club enjoyed a program on Operation Christmas Child at its meeting Nov. 13 at Perry Memorial Library. Hostesses were Debby Schollenbarger, Sandra Splawn and Carolyn Thomas.

Vicky Black, local coordinator, gave the program. Operation Christmas Child is part of the larger organization, Samaritan’s Purse. It was started in 1993 by Franklin Graham after he received a call from a British pastor on the plight of children in Bosnia. That first year, 28,000 shoe boxes were shipped.

The collection and sending of shoe boxes, filled with various items, around the world has grown tremendously. To date, 164 million boxes have been shipped.

Black also explained that a drop off system has been developed to collect boxes and ship them to processing centers. Locally, Victory Family Church is the drop off center.
