Amelia June Cowan of Balko Oklahoma died Sept. 19, 2019 at home surrounded by family.

Amelia was born in Beaver, OK to Ralph and Ellen Frazee Gregory. She spent her childhood years growing up in Beaver County near Elmwood with her two brothers, Ralph Junior and George. Amelia graduated from Balko High School in 1961.

In school she was involved in basketball, cheerleading, choir, and band. While in school, she was also interested in a young man named Stevie Ray Cowan, whom she married in Booker on May 20,1961. They enjoyed 58 years of marriage in Beaver County with the exception of a few years spent in Greenfield, Missouri. Over the next 15 years, Amelia and Stevie added seven children to the family.

Amelia loved attending Balko Bison sporting events and was several times recognized as the top booster by the Bison Booster Club. Amelia always kept busy. When she wasn’t attending sporting events, she was an avid reader, piano player, crocheter, master crafter, gardener, scrapbooker, family genealogist, photographer, cook, chauffeur, parts runner, cheerleader and being the best grandma ever.

Amelia was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Junior and George.

Amelia is survived by a large family, her husband Stevie, and their seven children: Mitch Cowan and wife Marcia, Shane Cowan and wife Kim, JoDon Rawls and husband Brian, Carmen Cowan and Mike Broadfoot, Nakia Cowan and wife Maggi, Casey Cowan and wife Brandi, Amy Smith and husband Jason, 18 grandchildren spread out from California to South Carolina and 16 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her Aunt Mary Pugh and Uncle Bernard Gregory.

Funeral services were held Sept. 21 at Capital View Cemetery with arrangements made by Alan Clark Funeral Services of Beaver and Max Whipple officiating.
