The Perryton City Council approved a steering committee to negotiate a new natural gas supply contract for the city, as well as annexed a tract of land into the city and installed newly elected council members.

Appointed to the natural gas steering committee were Robert Cunningham, Brent Allen, Mayor Kerry Symons, City Manager David Landis and Public Works Director Jim Powell.

Along with the committee, the council also approved authorizing staff to execute the contract upon direction from the steering committee.

Landis explained that the city’s current three year contract with West Texas Gas expires at the end of September. He said the execution authorization was necessary because there is a narrow window to act on the new price with West Texas Gas. He added that he thinks the city may save at least 25 cents a unit over the current contract.

The city now pays $3.97 per MCF, and adds on $1.69 to the customer to cover the cost for supplying that gas to city customers.
