A building on Ash Street is a total loss after a fire at the structure last week.

At 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10, a call came in to the fire department of a structure fire at the corner of Ash Street and Seventh Avenue. At the scene, the firefighters had a hard time beginning their fight.

According to Fire Chief Paul Dutcher, wind loosened one of the metal roof sheets and pushed it into contact with electrical wiring, which started the fire. After about 10 minutes of putting water on the building’s roof, they saw that the metal roof was still arcing with the electrical wiring.

“All the metal parts of the buildings were ‘hot,’ so we pulled all the firemen back away from the building and waited until the electric company could reach the scene and get the electricity turned off,” Chief Dutcher said.
