Eight PHS students advance to regional competition

Perryton High School will send eight students to UIL regional academic competition following their performances at the UIL district meet March 29-30 at Frank Phillips College in Borger.

The regional meet is scheduled for this weekend at Texas Tech University in Lubbock.

Taking first place in spelling was Madison Attaway. The computer science/programming team of Mads Hansen, Jaziel Contreras, Bryan Moreno and Cole Townsend brought home first place as well. The team also took the top four individual places, with Townsend in first, Hansen in second, Moreno in third and Contreras in fourth.

Townsend was also second in mathematics and third in number sense; Contreras was also sixth in mathematics and competed in science, Moreno was first in ready writing, third in science, fourth in mathematics and fourth in Lincoln-Douglas debate.

Cynthia Rojas placed third in feature writing and fifth place in editorial writing. Chloe Tanner was second in literary criticism. Mireya Trejo received second place in feature writing and fifth place in news-writing and competed in headline writing.
