Rites held for Boyd

Irvin Boyd, 88, of Gruver, died March 20, 2019 at Hansford County Hospital in Spearman.

Funeral services were held Friday, March 22, at First Christian Church in Gruver with Rev. Gary Gumfory officiating. Burial was in Gruver Cemetery. Services were under the direction of the Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home of Guymon.

He was born Dec. 12, 1930 in Meade, KS, and graduated from Gruver High School in the late 1940s.

He married Helen Sanders May 22, 1951 in Gruver. He was a farmer and rancher, and a member of Gruver First Christian Church. Irvin served on several farm boards and the Stationmaster’s House Museum.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harrison Lewis and Eva Mae Boyd; and two daughters, Betty Lou West and Mary Sue Wester.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Boyd of Gruver; two sons, Willis Boyd of Spearman, and Daniel Boyd of Gruver; two brothers, Bernie Boyd and Harley Boyd, both of Mena, AR; nine grandchildren; and11 great-grandchildren,

The family suggests memorials to Gruver First Christian Church or the Stationmaster’s House Museum, in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 1112, Guymon, OK 73942.

Line of Duty

During filming of the chariot race scene in the movie “Ben-Hur,” one of the cameras was completely ruined when a chariot ran over it. The footage right up to the camera’s obliteration was used in the final film.
