Ranger lifters sweep regional meet

The Perryton power-lifting teams continued to dominate. The Rangers traveled to Sundown for the Regional Meet and returned with all the hardware. Perryton captured the majority of the awards at the meet.

The Rangers easily won the Regional Championship. They finished with 37 points, which was an amazing 16 points over their nearest competition. Perryton qualified 17 lifters for the meet, of which 16 lifted. Eight of the Rangers brought home medals and six qualified for the state meet.

Senior Josue Becerril took first place in the 148-pound class with lifts of 565-305-520 for a total of 1,390 pounds. He captured the awards for best squat, bench and overall lifter for the light platforms. He also set the regional record in squat. He qualified for the state meet for the second year in a row. He also won the 148-pound class last year. It was his third time to lift at regionals. He lifted 390 pounds more in this meet compared to his first appearance.
