Kip Lofland

Joseph Kipley “Kip” Lofland, age 69, passed away on January 31, 2019, in San Antonio.

One of five children born to Lloyd and Bonny Lofland, Kip was raised (and raised hell) in the panhandle town of Perryton. After graduating from Perryton High School in 1968, Kip served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in English. Kip was a long-time resident of Perryton, and spent his final 15 years in Port Lavaca.

A man who could do whatever he set his mind to—and that was a lot—Kip was a jack of all trades, including house mover, farmer, rancher, salesman, and all around fixer of things needing fixing.

Ever the middle child, Kip never outgrew his orneriness or his affinity for challenging those around him. Kip kept us on our toes, but above all, he was a true and kind friend and neighbor to all those that knew him. Kip will be very dearly missed.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd C. Lofland, sister, Sue Lyon, and two nephews.

He is survived by his mother, Bonny Lofland, brother, Jim Lofland, and sister, Chris Scroggs, all of Port Lavaca, and younger brother, Tom Lofland, of Spearfish, South Dakota. He is also survived by 10 nieces and nephews and 26 great nieces and nephews.

Kip loved being at the beach, sun on his face and beer in hand. If you’d like to do something to commemorate his life, we ask that you raise an ice-cold Bud and donate to the Texas Adopt-A-Beach program.

Graveside services will be held by Kip’s family and close friends at a later date.
