George Zoller, 95, passed away Monday, Sept. 24, 2018. A memorial service will be at the First United Methodist Church, 321 Baylor, at 1 p.m. on Thursday Sept. 27, 2018. The service will be streamed via YouTube at Perryton’s First United Methodist Church’s site. He was born in Parks Camp near Breckenridge, on April 25, 1923. George graduated high school in Van, and attended Texas Tech on a football scholarship. He served in the US Navy during WWII and returned to Texas Tech to complete his degree. After graduation, he became a high school football coach. He became high school principal when he came to Perryton in 1958. George retired as superintendent of Perryton ISD in 1985. He was very active in the Lions Club on the local and state levels. He served as chairman of United Way for several years. He was active in the Texas State Teachers Association, both on the local and state levels. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 65 years. He was instrumental in founding the YMCA. He was Citizen of the Year in 1970 and honored as a Golden Star Citizen at Perryton’s 75th Celebration. He co-founded the Ranger Academic Enrichment Fund in 2005. He was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church. He loved fishing, golfing, camping and his morning coffee time with the guys. He was loved and respected by all who knew him, and he will be dearly missed. He is survived by his son Craig Zoller and wife Cindy of Denton; daughter Carla Bozeman and husband John of Perryton; granddaughters Christina Thomas and Carlee Richardson; great-grandson Roque and great-granddaughter Ava. He is preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Ava; his parents Tex and Beulah Zoller; two infant children and one grandson, Chris Richardson. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to the Ranger Academic Enrichment Fund, P.O. Box 179, Perryton, TX 79070.
