Florence Yvonne (Hummer) Conley, 83, of Perryton, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018 in Amarillo. Services will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2018 at First Christian Church in Perryton. Burial will follow in Ochiltree Cemetery, and arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Perryton. Florence was born on April 28, 1935 in Beaver, OK to David D and Mary V. (Morgan) Hummer, the youngest of six children. Florence attended school in both Booker and Perryton, at which time she was very active in sports and also participated as the band’s drum majorette and twirler, something with which she took great pride in. While she was young, Florence made her confession of faith and was a lifelong servant of our Lord. She exemplified a life of Christian commitment and moral integrity. Florence married Gary O. Conley on July 20, 1952 in the home of her parents. To this union two children were born, Marc O. in 1953 and Cheryl Y. in 1955. Gary and Florence had a wonderful life filled with love, laughter and adventure. Due to Gary’s pursuit of education and subsequent work, they lived in many places such as Iowa, Illinois, and even Medellin, Colombia, not to mention all of the places they had the opportunity to travel to. In 1972 they returned once again to the Conley family farm southwest of Perryton, where they were most happy. On the farm they grew crops, raised livestock, and entertained many friends and family. The farm was a place that brought them great joy, as well as their children and grandchildren. Florence was always known for her hospitality, kindness, and her Christian faith. She never knew a stranger and everyone felt the warmth of her love. Gary passed away on July 31, 1997 and Florence remained on the farm until she moved to town a year later. There she continued to spend her time volunteering in the First Christian Church, a place she loved deeply. She continued to travel, visiting family and friends. She enjoyed being a grandmother and great-grandmother, babysitting often, memories that will be treasured for the grandchildren’s lifetime. Florence battled Alzheimer’s fiercely from 2013 until the day of her death. She will always be remembered for her pioneer woman strength, hardworking, yet gentle hands, and devout faith and enormous heart. Florence was preceded in death by her parents Dave and Mary V. Hummer, sisters Pauline Duke, Marjory Urban, brother David “Buddy” Hummer and husband Gary Conley. She is survived by son Marc Conley and wife Karen of Hooker, Ok and daughter Cheryl Stephens and husband Kenny of Follet; grandchildren Sarah Laubhan and husband Kenton of Follett, Cody Parks and wife Mandy of Canyon, Audrey Conley of Grapevine, Travis Conley and wife Rebecca of Brownwood, Taysia Stephens and Tate Stephens, both of Marlow, OK; great-grandchildren Olivia, Clayton, Kayden, Sydney, Rawley, Ty and Barrett; her sisters Mary F. Hummer and Martha F. Hall, both of Amarillo; and sister-in-law Mary Lou Hummer of Oklahoma City, OK; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends. Donations can be made in remembrance of Florence to the American Alzheimer’s Association, 5410 S. Bell, Suite 411, Amarillo, TX, 79109; or the First Christian Church, P.O. Box 1244, Perryton, TX, 79070.
