The Museum of the Plains has a special Quilts of Valor exhibit on display through August.

The quilts, created by the Friendship Quilt Guild, will be on exhibit through Pioneer Day, part of the Wheatheart of the Nation Celebration.

The Quilt of Valor program started in 2003 when Catherine Roberts of Seaford, Delaware wanted to present quilts to her son’s military group coming home from Iraq to give a tangible symbol of the love and appreciation of the country.

She had the idea of linking quilters making tops Landis reappointed to state TMRS board with long arm quilters to create quilts to cover returning service men and women.

Since that time it has become a grass roots community service effort.
