Sharon Barkley, 73, of Gruver, died June 15, 2017 in Spearman. Celebration of life services will be held Monday, June 19, at 11 a.m. at Gruver First Baptist Church with Rev.Scott Curry, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Gruver Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Henson-Novak Funeral Directors of Guymon, OK. She was born Nov. 19, 1943 in Shattuck, OK, and graduated from Gruver High School. She married Leslie Barkley on Aug. 20, 1961 in Gruver. She worked on the family farm and was active in her church, where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. She was also a Hansford Manor volunteer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Lynn and I. W. Ayres, Jr. She is survived by her husband, Les Barkley, of the home; one son, Barry Barkley of Perryton; one daughter, Sharolyn Finley of Gruver; one brother, Bruce Ayres of Abilene; one sister, Rosalyn McClenagan of Gruver; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials to Hansford Hospice, 707 S. Roland, Spearman TX 79081. Super Lessons In 1996, Superman teamed up with the United Nations, UNICEF, the U.S. Department of Defense and then First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton to teach children in war-ravaged Bosnia-Herzegovina about land mine safety. DC Comics published the issue “Superman: Deadly Legacy” in three languages and copies were distributed free.
