Melvin Lee Miller, born on July 4, 1936, to Chris Miller, Jr. and Esther Fritzler Miller in Higgins, peacefully passed away on February 27, 2024.

As a small child, he resided north of Lipscomb until 1941, later moving west of Darrouzett, where he spent his formative years until he married. Melvin graduated from Darrouzett High School and pursued higher education at West Texas State University in Canyon, from 1954 to 1959, where he received a teaching degree in Industrial Arts. During his college years, he was an active member of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity.

On April 14, 1963, Melvin married the love of his life, Elizabeth “Liz” Ann Treiber, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Darrouzett. Their union was blessed with two daughters, Stephanie Lynn and Leigh Ann, born in Shattuck, Oklahoma. Following their marriage, Melvin and Liz settled on the family farm along Highway 305 in Lipscomb County, where they built a life together for almost 61 years.

Melvin found joy in various pursuits, including farming, woodworking, carpentry, photography, puzzles, games, and a profound love for his wife, daughters, and granddaughters. His dedication to community service was evident through his involvement in the school board, Lions Club, VIP Church Council, Soil Conservation in Lipscomb County, hospital district, and the Farm Bureau Board. Notably, Melvin designed the plans for the Parish Hall at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, showcasing his commitment to both faith and community.

Throughout the years, Melvin received numerous accolades, including the Omar Hermsmeyer Award with the Lions Club Eye Bank, and various honors for his outstanding contributions to the Darrouzett community. Baptized as a baby at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Melvin continued to play an active role in the church, serving as the President of the Church Council and contributing to building projects and property committees.

Melvin Lee Miller was preceded in death by his parents, Chris and Esther Miller, his daughter Leigh Ann Woods, and many aunts and uncles.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Elizabeth “Liz” of Darrouzett, daughter Stephanie Lynn Osman of The Woodlands, Texas, brother Ernie Miller of Darrouzett, sister-in-law Luella Miller of Darrouzett, and cherished grandchildren Taylor Ophelia and Sofia Elyse of Houston. Additionally, Melvin leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who will forever cherish his memory.

Melvin will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to family, community, and faith, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and enduring commitment. The impact of his kindness and generosity will be felt for generations to come. May he rest in peace.

Celebration of Life was held on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 11 a.m. at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Darrouzett.
