Mavolyne S. Burnett

Mavolyne S. Burnett, 79, of Rockport, passed away on May 6, 2023, in Lometa, with her beloved family at her side.

Mavolyne, known as “Mav” by all of her family and friends, was born on April 17, 1944, to Jacob “Jake” and Lenna Opal (Pate) Sodowsky Johnson in Perryton, where she attended Perryton High School. After her father, Jake, passed away, her mother married William “Bill” J. Johnson who raised Mav and helped foster a love of the land in her from the time she was 5 years old.

Mav thoroughly loved retelling stories of life on the farm with her mother, Bill, her horse, and the wide expansive spaces of the Texas ranchland.

Mav was a true artist and creative soul with a passion for nature and animals, especially her dogs. She loved being outdoors, capturing breathtaking landscapes and wildlife in her paintings and feeding any critter she deemed in need.

She married her best friend in May 1979. Together they combined their children into one large and loving family and traveled the world relishing the adventures their military life offered.

Upon retirement, they came home to Texas to embrace the simple country life once again, enjoying spending time near family and friends while continuing their adventures in their motorhome and exploring America from coast to coast, making sure to stop and take in the beautiful views from the mountains along the way.

Mavolyne is survived by her loving husband, Peter Burnett; her beloved dog, Kali; her six children and their spouses: Clinton (Sally) Nowlin, Renaii (David) Ortiz, William Davis, Bobby (Betsy) Davis, Elizabeth (Mike) Henderson, and Heather (Greg) Royse; her 14 grandchildren and spouses; and numerous great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Humane Society of Rockport (1308 Myrtle Street, Fulton, TX, 78358; 361-729-8186).
