Mary Olivarez

Maria “Mary” Olivarez, 70, of Perryton, passed away on Monday, May 8, 2023 in Amarillo.

Mass will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 13, 2023 at St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church in Pampa with Rev. Arockiaraj Malapday (Raj) officiating. Cremation will follow the service under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

Vigil and rosary will be at 6 p.m. Friday, May 12, 2023 at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel.

Mary was born Oct. 2, 1952 in Pampa to Leopoldo and Santos Ramirez. She attended school in Pampa. On Dec. 2, 1967, she married the love of her life, Fidel Olivarez, in Pampa. They have recently celebrated 55 years of marriage.

Mary spent most of her life working with children, which was her passion. She began working at St. Anthony’s Catholic School when her boys were young, and went on to work at Dalhart ISD, Perryton ISD, and back to St. Anthony’s Catholic School totaling 39 years. She retired in 2018.

Mary enjoyed traveling with her husband, as they would spend the winters in south Texas and the summers in Colorado. Perryton was their main residence. She loved spending time with her family and very seldom you would find Mary without her camera. She enjoyed capturing every moment she could of all her family and always had a beautiful smile. Mary never missed birthdays and anniversaries of her family and close friends as they were all so dear to her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Raul Ramirez; two sisters, Conception Diaz and Elvira Guerra.

Survivors include her husband, Fidel of the home; three sons, Fidel Olivarez, Jr. and Heidi of Zephyrhills, Florida, Tomas Olivarez of Dumas, and Tim Olivarez and wife Carrie of Perryton; brother, Rodolfo “Chico” Ramirez and wife Liz of Pampa; she was a wonderful “Meme” to her seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
