Greg Mounsey

Greg Mounsey, 64, of Perryton, passed away Monday, April 3, 2023.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at 1 p.m. at the Booker Methodist Church Fellowship Hall with George Auld and Gene McPeak officiating.

Greg came into this world on Jan. 13, 1959. He was delivered by Dr. Butcher in Beaver, OK feet first, ready to hit the ground running. He was the oldest of five boys born to Barrie and Sherry (Sell) Mounsey.

Greg was raised in the Booker area, where he attended Booker High School, graduating in 1977. He excelled in football, track, baseball and choir, being named an All-State athlete in football and track. After high school, he played football for Ranger College, where he and his teammates secured a National Championship.

After college, he started his lifelong career in the oilfield. Using the work ethic he learned at a very young age from his Grandpa Russell and his dad, he began his career as a roughneck. Through hard work and dedication, Greg completed his career as a Drilling Superintendent for Mewbourne Oil Co. During the time spent working in the oil and gas industry, Greg earned respect from co-workers and gained many, many life-long friends.

Greg married Mary Lynne Moffitt on May 28, 1988, in her hometown of Memphis, Texas. They had three daughters, Krista, Alyssa and Mollie. If you were to ask his girls, he was the ultimate girl dad! Greg devoted every spare minute (and dollar) to all three of his girls’ activities.

Greg mentored many young girls, helping them to follow their dreams. They moved around the area following his job, spending years in Booker, Beaver, Follett and made Perryton their home in March of 2020.

Greg is survived by his mother, Sherry Sell Mounsey of Perryton; wife of 35 years, Mary Lynne, also of Perryton; three daughters, Krista Hessman and husband, Cody, of Beaver, OK, Alyssa Mounsey of Perryton and Mollie Wynn and husband, Zach, of Follett; two grandchildren, Y’Leigh Hessman of Beaver, OK and River Wynn of Follett; four brothers and their wives, Rusty and Connie Mounsey of Moreland, OK, Kevin and Jeannie Mounsey of Bowie, Mike Mounsey of Elk City, OK and Tim and Tressa Mounsey of Lipscomb; father and mother-in-law, Harold and Mollie Moffitt of Memphis; brother and sister-in-law, Andy and Linda Moffitt of Paradise; numerous nieces and nephews; and countless friends. He will be greatly missed.

Greg was preceded in death by his father, Barrie Mounsey; maternal grandparents, Russell and Grace Sell; paternal grandparents, Bus and Naomi Mounsey; and a nephew, Barrie David Mounsey.

A scholarship will be set up in his honor to help young women student athletes of Lipscomb and Beaver Counties.
