The Ochiltree County Commissioners’ Court met on Monday, April 11, at the Ochiltree County Courthouse.
Among other items on the agenda, the commissioners approved the sale of two airplane hangars at the Perryton Ochiltree County Airport.
Commissioners approved the sale of one hangar from Doug Reeves to Josh Stevenson and another hangar from Ranger Aviation to Jason Schickedanz.
In other business, the commissioners approved the hiring of Bucky Goldsberry as a reserve deputy constable.
Goldsberry is the current justice of the peace and would not be able to patrol as a deputy, as it would constitute a conflict of interest.
Goldsberry said taking the deputy constable position would allow him to keep his law enforcement license.
The commissioners also discussed vacation days due to two employees in the sheriff’s department. Ochiltree County Sheriff Terry Bouchard had spoken with the commissioners last month about the possibility of raising the cap on vacation days for the employees, who had not been able to take any of their vacation time due to staffing shortages in the department.
County Judge Charles Kelly told Bouchard that the vacation cap could not be raised any higher than it already was.
Commissioners briefly discussed how to offer bonus pay to the employees to make up for less vacation time and expressed the desire to help them avoid burnout from overwork.
The commissioners decided to table the issue until a later meeting to work on a better solution.
Commissioners also approved a proposal for paving materials from Ergon Asphalt and Emulsions of Benton, KS for $3.08 a gallon for CRS-2 emulsion and $3.23 a gallon for AE-P primer.
The commissioners also approved a proposal for chip and seal paving from B&H Paving from Scott City, KS for a contract rate of $4,340 per mile.
Commissioners also approved the sale of one of the constable’s vehicles, with proceeds from the sale to go into the constable’s maintenance fund.
