Both Perryton High School track teams traveled to take part in a unique meet in Liberal, Kansas last week. The Liberal Invitational hosted eight boy and girl teams. Kansas meets have some unique events and an unusual order of events.
The Rangers finished tied with Hooker, OK for third place at 72 points. Dodge City won the meet with 164.5 points. Garden City was second with 97 points. The Rangerettes finished fifth with 68 points. Dodge City also won the girls’ side with 140 points. Liberal was second with 108 points.
Rangerette Mackenzi Stokes won the discus competition with a distance of 115.4. Jaret Rowlan and Tad Pshigoda threw fifth and seventh respectively in the boys’ side. Ranger Daniel Alvidrez took fourth in the shotput at 44.11. JJ Mand-ujano placed sixth. Erin Merkel placed fifth for the Rettes.
Rangerette Deanna Gutierrez took third and fourth in the triple and long jump events respectively. Maddie Schickedanz was sixth in each event. Jaki Mercado was seventh in the triple jump, while Rebecca Cavazos placed fifth in the long jump.
Sabrina Nyman took first in the pole vault at 6-10 for Perryton. Gus Eylar placed fourth at 9-4. Kade Gilbert was third in the high jump at 5-10. Holdyn Rowland matched that height but place fifth due to jump totals. Stokes placed seventh for the Rettes in the high jump results.
Perryton had their best results in the hurdle races. In the 110m hurdles, David Garcia (16.21) was first and Rowland was fifth. Tiana Hill (18.65) placed second for the Rettes, while Genesis Flores ran sixth. Isaac Gabriel won the 300m hurdles in 41.57. Pshigoda was second and David Garcia ran fourth for Perryton. Hill ran fourth in the 300m girls’ race.
Cavazos ran fourth in the 100m dash in a time of 13.69. Kennedee Fletcher ran sixth in the 400m run for the Retes. Cuyler Feger ran fifth in the 200m run while Daxton Rigdon finished seventh. Javier Ledezma ran fifth in the 800m race in 2:09.
The Ranger 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams finished second. The Rangerette 4x400 finished third while the 4x100 ran fourth.
