GAINING TRUST—Perryton Fire Department Chief Paul Dutcher and his staff conducted a program for students at Perryton Kinder last week designed to teach kids the basics of fire safety. Part of the program involved EMT firefighter Olivia Thompson putting all of her safety gear on so young kids could get acquainted with what a fully-equipped firefighter looks like. Some young kids, if caught in a fire, might be frightened by a giant, helmeted, masked figure walking through a dark, smoky house; the demonstration lets kids learn that firefighters may look scary in the dark, but they’re someone kids can trust in an emergency.
