By early 1937, due to strenuous soil conservation methods, much of the battle against dust had been won. The Ochiltree County Herald of January 21, 1937, had this to say:
Only a small section of the Texas Panhandle remains in the “dust bowl,’’ and according to statements issued by soil conservation experts, Ochiltree County is no longer a part of this much publicized area.
