The Perry Memorial Library will be closed until Thursday, Oct. 15, due to a COVID-19 quarantine.
Anderson to speak Oct. 8
Randy Anderson of Lubbock, will be the first speaker in the Leadership Perryton XIX series with a presentation on Thursday, Oct. 8 at the Frank Phillips College Allen Campus. Registration will begin at 6 p.m. and the seminar will begin at 6:30 p.m. Anderson’s session is titled, “6 Determiners of Success in Life” at Frank Phillips College Allen Campus in Perryton. The seminar will be free of charge. His appearance is sponsored by Courson Gas Consultants.
Lions host lunch for first responders
Lions Club District 2T-1 will host a free lunch for all first responders on Thursday, Oct. 15, at noon in the FirstBank Southwest basement.
Snack Pak 4 Kids set October 12
Snack Pak 4 Kids will meet Monday, Oct. 12, at 7 p.m. at the Williams Cafeteria to pack snack bags. Masks will be required, and hand sanitizer will be provided. Donations can be sent to P.O. Box 340, Perryton, TX 79070.
Museum sets brick fundraiser
The Museum of the Plains is accepting sealed bids for historical paving bricks. The paving bricks came from the streets of Perryton; some still have asphalt on them. The paving bricks will be sold by sealed bid in minimum lots of 100. The sealed bids will be due on Friday, Oct. 30, at 4 p.m. to the museum, and will be opened at the Museum of the Plains board meeting on Nov. 12. There are approximately 4,000 paving bricks. The museum board reserves the right to accept or reject any and all bids. For more information, contact the museum at 435-6400.
Dog care and training classes planned
Ochiltree County Extension Service will hold four different seminars related to dog care and training for dogs. The classes are designed to teach young people how to care for and train their family dog. Tips on selecting the right type of dog to adopt or purchase will also be presented. The classes will be held at the Expo Center at 6 p.m. on Oct. 15, Oct. 22, Oct. 29, and Nov. 5. The classes are open to all area kindergarten through 12th grade students. Participants are encouraged but not required to attend all four classes. Participants will bring their dogs to the last class only. Crisis center shop not accepting donations
The Panhandle Crisis Center’s Resale Shop is temporarily not accepting donations to the store in order to process an overstock of store merchandise. The store is still open to sell items.
PISD expands free meals
The USDA has expanded the free food service to include all children ages 1-18, including virtual learners. All “grab and go” meals in Perryton will be picked in the PISD administration parking lot (behind Williams Intermediate). Breakfast will be available from 8-8:30 am. and lunch will be from 10:30-11 a.m. Students in school will continue to receive meals until Dec. 31, unless federal funds run out.
Luminaria ceremony planned
Relay for Life is planning a drive-through Luminaria Ceremony on Oct. 15 from 7-8 p.m. at Whigham Park during Moonlight Madness. This event is in honor of cancer survivors and in memory of patients lost. Luminaria signs will be available for purchase before the event for a minimum donation of $15. Fund set up for Drum
A fund has been set up for Cindy Drum at Perryton National Bank to help with her expenses, as she is having bypass surgery. Any donation is appreciated.

Officers to deliver groceries, help
The Perryton Police Department, in conjunction with United Supermarket and Lowe’s Market, are offering grocery delivery to any “sheltered in place” seniors ages 60 or older. Those interested can place their orders by calling Lowe’s between 8-10 a.m. or United between 7-9 a.m. on Monday or Thursday. A police officer will place the grocies on your porch or bring them inside. If they enter the residence, they will wear a N95 respirator and gloves for your protection. While they are there, they would also be happy to take out the trash, replace a light bulb, fix a broken drawer, or do whatever they can to make shelter in place easier during the COVID-19 crisis.
Crime Stoppers offers shredding service
Perryton-Ochiltree County Crime Stoppers is offering a free document shredding service. A blue bin has been placed in the lobby of the Perryton Police Department for the public to place their documents to be destroyed. A shredding service will pick up the container and dispose of the contents.
