Rifle and Pistol Club to meet
The Perryton Rifle and Pistol Club will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday, Oct. 1, at 7 p.m. at the indoor range south of the Ochiltree County Expo Building. Members will discuss upcoming matches and events, as well as changes due to virus restrictions. The meeting is open to the public, and new memberships and renewals will be available. Rifle Club sets Steel Challenge match
The Perryton Rifle and Pistol Club’s monthly Steel Challenge match will be held on Saturday, Oct. 3, at 1 p.m. at the Chuck Waller Range across from Wolf Creek Park. The course of fire will focus on three Steel Challenge courses — 5 to Go, Pendulum, and Roundabout. Competitors will fire 22 LR rifles and pistols, pistol caliber carbines (9mm, .40, .45) and center fire pistols. The fee is $5 per gun — shoot as many as you wish. Book fair scheduled at library The Jennie June Book Fair will be held at Perry
The Jennie June Book Fair will be held at Perry Memorial Library beginning on Monday, Sept. 28, and running through the end of October. Prices are 50 cents for hardcover books and a quarter for children’s books and paperbacks.
Snack Pak 4 Kids set September 28
Snack Pak 4 Kids will meet Monday, Sept. 28, at 7 p.m. at the Williams Cafeteria to pack snack bags. Masks will be required, and hand sanitizer will be provided. Donations can be sent to P.O. Box 340, Perryton, TX 79070.
Crisis center shop not accepting donations
The Panhandle Crisis Center’s Resale Shop is temporarily not accepting donations to the store in order to process an overstock of store merchandise. The store is still open to sell items.
PISD expands free meals
The USDA has expanded the free food service to include all children ages 1-18, including virtual learners. All “grab and go” meals in Perryton will be picked in the PISD administration parking lot (behind Williams Intermediate). Breakfast will be available from 8-8:30 am. and lunch will be from 10:30-11 a.m. Students in school will continue to receive meals until Dec. 31, unless federal funds run out.
Luminaria ceremony planned
Relay for Life is planning a drive-through Luminaria Ceremony on Oct. 15 from 7-8 p.m. at Whigham Park during Moonlight Madness. This event is in honor of cancer survivors and in memory of patients lost. Luminaria signs will be available for purchase before the event for a minimum donation of $15. Fund set up for Drum
A fund has been set up for Cindy Drum at Perryton National Bank to help with her expenses, as she is having bypass surgery. Any donation is appreciated.
Pathways enrollment underway
The deadline to enroll in the Pathways scholarship program for 2020-21 is Wednesday, Sept. 30. Pathways is open to Perryton High School freshmen and eligible sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Pathways is a branch of the Ranger Academic Enrichment Foundation that guarantees payment for tuition, fees, and books at Frank Phillips College Allen Campus for all qualifying students. Library announces adjusted hours
Perry Memorial Library has announced new hours. The library will be open from 9:30 a.m.-6 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays, and from 9:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Patrons who are at high risk can call ahead to make appointments to come in at 9 a.m. Monday through Friday. Patrons are required to wear masks when they come into the building.
