Castanon rites set

Noe Castanon, 76, of Perryton, died May 12, 2026 in Perryton.

Rosary will be held Friday, May 25, at 1 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Mass will be held at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Ochiltree Cemetery. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home.

He was born Dec. 14, 1949 in San Juan de Guadalupe, Mexico, and married Maria Espino in April 1974 in Mexico.

He worked for Texas Farm/Seaboard as a truck driver. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jose Castanon; and two brothers, He is survived by three sons, Jose Luis Castanon, Cesar Castanon and Fernando Castanon, all of Perryton; his mother, Herlinda Castanon of Mexico; two sisters; six brothers; and three grandchildren.

Parachutes in history A French balloonist and parachutist named Jeanne Geneviève Garnerin was the first woman to parachute from a hot-air balloon. On Oct. 12, 1799, she parachuted from a balloon 3,000 feet high. In 1802, she filed a patent application for the parachute on behalf of her husband, balloonist AndréJacques Garnerin.
