The Rangerettes travelled to Canyon a day earlier than scheduled for a game on Monday. The contest was moved up to avoid the adverse wind conditions on Tuesday. Perryton entered the game still trying to get their first win of the district season and avenge an earlier loss.

Rettes drop close game

The Rangerettes softball team travelled to Hereford to face the Lady Whitefaces on Tuesday. Perryton looked to pick up their first district win, despite being listed as underdogs in the game. The Rettes played their best game of the district season but came up just short in the seventh inning.

Tennis completes season

The PHS tennis teams competed in their final two tournaments of the season recently. In their last tuneup before district, the teams played in the Amarillo Relays against much larger teams and all the teams in the district. Each group was able to play four matches. In boys’ singles.

PHS track competes in Bobcat Relays

The Perryton High School track teams competed in the Bobcat Relays in Sunray last week. Seven teams competed in each side of the meet. The Rangers won the meet as a team with 166 points. Gruver was second with 142 points.

Rettes face Pampa

Sportsmanship is on lifesupport or perhaps it is already gone. The Rangerette softball team hosted the Pampa Lady Harvesters on Friday. Pampa is loaded with pitching and superior hitting again this year. Pampa jumped out to an early lead of 12-0 in the first inning and never applied the brakes.

Greatest Jockey

Eddie Arcaro, one of the greatest jockeys in horse race history, rode 250 losers before he won his first race. Ultimately, Arcaro won 4,779 races, including five Derby winners, six in the Preakness and six in the Belmont Stakes, on such famous horses as Whirlaway, Citation and Kelso.

Four Rangers make All District team

Four Perryton Rangers have been named to this year’s All District 4-4A Basketball team. Making the All District first team were sophomore Julian Cervantes and junior Tad Pshigoda. Earning honorable mention honors were Cuyler Feger and Daxton Rigdon. For the season, Cervantes averaged 14.

Rangerette golfers finish their season

Two Rangerette golfers competed in the second round of district play on Monday in Dumas. The tournament was held on the Pheasant Trails Course. Only Canyon, Dumas and Hereford had complete teams and battled for the district title.

Dumas Demonettes stun the Rangerettes

The Rangerette softball team travelled to Dumas on Monday. The Demonettes are loaded with talent, as are all the teams in the district. Dumas once again has a power hitting lineup and strong pitching. Perryton shocked Dumas by jumping out toa three run lead in their half of the first inning.
