Timothy James Carney was born April 25, 1953, the second of five children to Robert and Dorothy Carney in Bangor, Maine. He peacefully left this earth on July 22, 2023, at Mayo Clinic Hospital, Rochester, MN.
Tim’s love of the ocean and fishing began as a child in Maine and continued throughout his life. The family later moved to Wyoming. As a teenager, Tim began working so that he could buy a motorcycle. He raced motocross and flat track, earning a team sponsorship. Fast cars came next. Tim also excelled on the ROTC rifle team and graduated from Central High School, Cheyenne, WY.
In the summer of 1973, Tim met Susan Gibson at Lake Bridgeport, TX. A life of love and good times began! Tim and Susan married in 1974 at the Gibson Baptist Assembly grounds. In 1975 Tim was transferred to Fresno, CA by Aermotor Windmills. He and Susan moved to Salem, OR for a few years, then back to the Oklahoma Panhandle to work for Uncle Arlo Gibson. When Tim’s health deteriorated, the family moved back to the West Coast, making their home in El Dorado Hills, CA. Tim was a successful independent sales representative. He retired from Graco, Inc. where he enjoyed the challenges and benefits of becoming Western Regional Sales Manager in the Contractor Equipment Division. When Tim’s health began to wane, he and Susan returned to God’s country—the Oklahoma Panhandle.
Tim and Susan were blessed with two sons, Jeremy and Josh. Tim joined in and supported them and their friends in whatever the activity was – golf, soccer, baseball, dance, fishing, hunting, camping, boating, mountain biking, RC car racing, flying private planes, Harley and off-road motorcycle trips and working on cars.
Tim leaves behind his wife, Susan; sons Jeremy of Seattle, WA and Josh of Scottsdale, AZ; mother, Dorothy Carney of Garden Ridge, TX; father, Robert Carney of Sacramento, CA; brothers Michael Carney (Karen) of Garden Ridge, TX and Lee Carney (Linda) of Bakersfield, CA; sister Kimberly Euell of Live Oak, TX; motherin- law, Ruby Gibson, of Hardesty, OK; sisters-inlaw Linda Calhoon (Bob) of Kellyville, OK and Treva Braun (Michael) of Choctaw, OK; and brotherin- law, Virgil Gibson of Hardesty, OK.
Tim is also survived by nephews Thad McCormick, Chuck McCormick, Brian Carney, Damien Euell, Johnathan Euell and nieces Karina Carney, Courtney Euell, and Andrea Dickens—each of whom provided Tim with “adopted grandkids”. He was especially close to a great nephew, Maddox McCormick and great nieces Abigail and Caitlynn McCormick. He was preceded in death by father-in-law Vernon Gibson; sister Carrie Carney and nephew Matthew McCormick.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Camp Gibson, c/o Panhandle Baptist Association, 221 NE 12th St., Guymon, OK 73942.
