Gary Leon Harper

Gary Leon Harper passed away Saturday, Sept. 4, 2021, in Amarillo.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 11, 2021, at 2 p.m. at Community Worship Center in Perryton. Services will be broadcast live on the Boxwell Brothers Facebook page for those who wish to watch. There is a link on the website (boxwellbros.com) to access the Facebook page. Arrangements are under the direction of Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Perryton.

Viewing/visitation will be Thursday Sept. 9, from 9 a.m.9 p.m., Friday Sept. 10, from 9 a.m.9 p.m., and Saturday, Sept. 11, from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m..

He was born July 29, 1942, to Elmer James and Naomi Jewell (Simpson) Harper at home in Beaver County, OK and graduated from Beaver High School in 1961. Gary married the love of his life, Jean Stumpf, on Dec. 14, 1963, in Perryton.

In his early years Gary owned Harper Surplus Store and spent many years as a roughneck in the oilfield. His desire to keep busy later in life led him to start his own lawn care business called Harper’s Mow and Trim. One of his customers remarked that if Gary mowed a yard and wasn’t pleased with it then he would remow the entire yard.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Chris Collums; two sisters, Donetta Miller and Elaine Hoover; one brother, Lonnie Harper; and his mother and father-in-law, Charley and Beulah Stumpf.

Gary is survived by his wife, Jean of the home, and three daughters, Lisa Lossie of Perryton, Donna and Rick Scott of Wolfforth, and Becky and Luke Stoner of Dickinson, ND; three grandsons, Cody and Corin Lossie of Perryton, Ryan and Amy Scott of Lubbock, and Levi Stoner of Williston, ND; three granddaughters, Casie Lossie of South Heart, ND, Stephanie and Casey Wunderlich of Lubbock, and Regina Stoner of Dickinson, ND; 11 greatgrandchildren; and 1 great-great-granddaughter.

He is also survived by four brothers, Garland Harper, Larry Harper and wife Marcia, Gilbert Harper and wife Clydeene, and Lowell Harper and wife Kim; and four sisters: Anneta Beaver and husband Gene, Bonita Campbell and husband Carl, Laneta Adams and husband Craig, and Dana Hoover and husband Leonard.
