Patricia Ann Payne

Patricia Ann “Patty” Payne, 88, of Perryton, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2020.

Services will be held Saturday, Nov. 14, at 10 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father Cesar Gomez officiating. Burial will follow at Ochiltree Cemetery.

Rosary is scheduled for 7:00 pm, Friday, Nov. 13, at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home with vigil to follow. The funeral home will be open for viewing/ visitation on Thursday, Nov. 12, from 12-9 p.m. and Friday, Nov. 13, from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Perryton.

Due to COVID-19 guidelines, social distancing will be practiced and occupancy numbers will be limited. Services will be broadcast live on Boxwell Brothers Facebook page. There is a link to the page on the website, boxwell bros.com.

Patty was born Dec. 26, 1931 to James and Rose Marie (Thomas) Perry in Vincennes, IN.She graduated St. John Academy, attend Indiana Business College and Indiana University Branch Campus Indianapolis. While attending college, she worked at Normal College of Indiana University.

Patty met Donald Payne at the USO Center in Indianapolis, IN. They were married in Holy Angels Catholic Church on Feb. 13, 1954. Their honeymoon was the trip from Indianapolis to Perryton via Hot Springs, AR, where she attended her first horse race. A short stay in Dallas and then on to Perryton.

She worked at the Perryton Herald for 19 years. She worked at the Chamber of Commerce for 20 years. She volunteered at the Senior Citizen Center, where she also served on the board of directors. She also was a volunteer at the Museum of the Plains.

She was an active member of the Catholic Church of Perryton. She served on the Parish council and was a CCD teacher. She also served on the Ladies Altar Society, where she received the honor of Woman of the Year in 1992.

She was a member of the Red Hat Society and enjoyed playing in a card club. She enjoyed fishing, bingo, bowing and reading. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Monica Cooper (Billy) of Poteet; Donnette Watson (Dennis) of Guymon, OK; Yolonda Kelly (Kerry) of Perryton; Ronald Payne of Perryton; Paula McAdams (Kirby) of Oklahoma City, OK; Susan Clark (Travis) of Guymon, OK; one brother, James Perry (Judy) of Plainfield, IN; sister-in-law Susan Perry of Carmel, IN; sister-in-law Mary Payne of Las Cruces, NM; 12 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, James (Roscoe) and Rose Marie (Rosie) Perry; her husband, Donald Payne; brother, Richard Perry; infant sisters, Mary Elizabeth and Susan Irene.

The family requests memorials to be to Ochiltree Senior Citizen Center, PO Box 738, Perryton, or Museum of the Plains, 1200 N Main, Perryton.
