Starrling Kay “SK” Neal

Starrling Kay (SK) Neal went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 with his loving family and friends surrounding him.

Kay was born on December 15, 1943 in Beaver, OK to James C. Neal and Inez L. Neal. He grew up on the Neal farm and ranch near Logan, OK. Kay accepted the Lord as his Savior when he was 10 years old and was baptized at the Mountain View Baptist Church.

He attended the first eight years of school at the Sunset Country School, his freshman year in Darrouzett, and finished high school in Beaver, OK in 1962.

He went on to college at Oklahoma State Electronic School in Oklahoma City for 2 years. Due to his father’s declining health he returned home to work the farm and ranch.

In August of 1965 he married Betty Cudd from Perryton. They had a wonderful 59 years together.

Kay had a knack for sales - he sold tires, farm equipment and fertilizer equipment all over Texas and Oklahoma. He sold cars in Beaver and in Perryton.

He had his own insurance agency in Beaver. He worked for the Oklahoma Corporation Commission as an oil field inspector for 10 years and retired from there.

Kay was called into full time ministry in 2009 and later that year he was ordained by the First Baptist Church in Perkins, OK as a minister. He also attended the Race Horse Chaplain of America School in Ruidoso, NM and was certified.

They were active in the First Baptist Church for 21 years. He pastored several churches in Oklahoma, assisted the Southside City Church in Fort Worth and reestablished a Baptist Church in North Fort Worth.

Due to health reasons he had to discontinue preaching.

Kay and Betty were members of the Shepherd’s Valley Cowboy Church in Alverado until the new Shepherd’s Valley Cowboy Church in Glen Rose was established. Where ever the Neal family lived Kay always found a church home for them.

Kay was an active member of the Stillwater Gideon Camp for 21 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #92 in Perkins,OK.

Kay was preceded in death by his parents James and Inez Neal; son Calvin E. Neal, brother, JC Neal, sister Vera Vasek, sister Maxine Roper, and nephew James C. Neal Jr.

He will be remembered by his loving wife Betty, his daughter Connie K. Ashley and her husband Stan Ashley, Carrie L. Debey and husband Rob Denbey, daughter Christina L Chesny and husband Michael J. Chesny; twelve grandchildren and three step grandchildren, as well as many neices, nephews, great neices and nephews, cousins and friends.
