The third eye
Some animals have a third eye, known as a parietal eye, on the tops of their heads. It’s much smaller than the animals’ main eyes and is always covered by skin, so it’s not normally visible. The parietal eye is not as complex as a normal eye and is mainly used to sense light, which may make it useful to sense prey animals overhead. The parietal eye is found in most lizards, frogs, salamanders, lampreys, sharks, some bony fish, and the tuatara.
