Michael Dartie Sanders

Michael Dartie Sanders, of Amarillo, formerly of Perryton, passed away Thursday, June 27, 2024 in Amarillo.

Services were held Monday, July 1, 2024 at 2 p.m. at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Perryton, with Robert Humphrey officiating. Burial followed in Ochiltree Cemetery.

Michael Dartie Sanders, Mike to his friends, AKA Poppy to all the grands, was born August 18, 1947 in Nocona, to Johnson Dartie and Juanita Josephine Sanders.

While in Nocona, he played little league baseball, as a pitcher for the Nocona Boot Factory team, rode his horse Honey and hunted up and down the creeks. The family moved to Perryton after his eighth grade year. He started as the Ranger Varsity quarterback and safety his sophomore year.

He graduated in 1965 and married his High School Sweetheart, Prescilla Ann Swink. Mike worked his way through college to pay for school and support his family. He ultimately earned a degree in Agricultural Business from West Texas State University.

Throughout his life, Mike held various professions, including working at W.R. Grace, Berry Grain Elevator, owner/ operator of The Outhouse, Waka’s Finest. He sold all types of insurance from 1984 until he retired. However, his favorite job and joy working was being a Rancher. In his later years, he found joy in that while retired.

Mike was a loving husband and father to his wife, Prescilla, and his children. His son Shayne and daughter Misty Rice and husband Don. He adored his grandchildren, including granddaughter Kyleigh Benton and husband Austin and grandson Brady Sanders. He was blessed with greatgrandsons Beckett and Brooks Benton.

In addition to his immediate family, he is survived by a sister, Mackie Wood and a brother, Danny Sanders. He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister Keri Nelson.

Mike will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his work ethic and his unwavering commitment to his loved ones. His kind heart and warm spirit touched the lives of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed.

Rest In Peace Michael Dartie, you will forever be treasured by those whose lives you touched.
