United Way are now at 34%

The Ochiltree United Way’s 2026 campaign made more progress over the past week. It has now reached close to 34% of its $98,000 goal this week.It has raised $33,003 from donors so far.

Staff from FirstBank Southwest dropped off 100 coats and 98 pairs of shoes at Williams Intermediate Elementary School on Wednesday morning as part of their annual Coats and Shoes for Kids drive.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is suing the makers of Tylenol, accusing Johnson and Johnson of failing to warn women about the risk of taking acetaminophen while pregnant, claiming it is a possible cause of autism.

Jennie June Club has meeting

The Jennie June Club met on Oct. 8 at Perry Memorial Library. Frances Aston welcomed members and opened the meeting with prayer.An informative program was given by Tosha Allison with Toys for Tots. Toys for Tots began in 1989 in Perryton with Robert and JoAnn McCoy and Max and Kay Allison helping.

Commissioners hear NextEra presentation

The Ochiltree County Commissioners’ Court met on Monday morning at the Ochiltree County Courthouse.The commissioners heard a presentation by Conner Danahy of K.E. Andrews, a property tax firm from Dallas, on NextEra Energy’s Palo Duro Energy Storage Project.

Quilt guild presents 12 Quilts of Valor

The Friendship Quilt Guild presented quilts to 12 veterans at its annual Quilt of Valor ceremony Oct. 16 at Community Worship Center.The first six were highlighted in last week’s Herald, and this week the remaining six are in the spotlight.Willis Smith of Higgins, joined the U.S, Army in March 1968.
