Texas hemp industry is feeling effect of looming ban

A nationwide ban on THC, the psychoactive ingredient in some hemp products, is already affecting business owners selling products derived from hemp, according to the Chronicle. But the owners are hopeful they can convince Congress to overturn the ban before it takes effect next November.

Ochiltree County Hospital District chief executive officer Kelly Judice was named the Panhandle Professional Women’s Club Woman of the Year for 2025.Judice earned a bachelor of science in nursing and a master of science in health administration.

TheT exas A&M Agri-Life Extension Service will host the AgriLife Extension Crop and Livestock Risk Protection Seminar Dec. 17 at the Expo Center.The seminar will begin at 8 a.m. with registration. Cost is $35. Lunch will be provided.

United Way drive reaches 74% of goal

The Ochiltree United Way’s 2026 fund drive continued to make progress, and is now at 74% of the $98,000 goal. The drive has raised $72,812 so far.No new 100% Companies joined the list.

Chamber is seeking nominations for Citizen of Year

The Perryton-Ochiltree Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations for the prestigious Citizen of the Year award, which will be presented at the Chamber’s annual banquet. The deadline to submit nominations is Friday, Jan. 16, at 5 p.m.
