United Way drive exceeds 2026 goal

The Ochiltree United Way’s 2026 fund drive has now exceeded its $98,000 goal. The drive has raised $101,147, which is 103% of goal.The drive went over the top with significant additional donations from the oil and gas sector.

Commissioners approve phone system for Expo

The Ochiltree County Commissioners’ Court met on Monday morning at the Ochiltree County Courthouse.Among other items on the agenda, the commissioners approved the purchase of a new telephone system for the Ochiltree County Expo Center.The phone system at the Expo is old and outdated.

FFA, 4-H members to show 115 animals in stock show

The 88th annual Ochiltree County Junior Livestock Show and Sale is slated for this weekendd, Jan. 16-17.The Perryton High School FFAand the Ochiltree County 4-H members will be showing 115 animals.The categories for this year’s show and sale include steers, heifers, sheep, meat goats, and swine.

Ochiltree County’s first baby of 2026 was born this week at Ochiltree General Hospital. Cori Scott was born on Saturday, Jan. 10 New Year’s Day, at 4:59 p.m. She weight 6 pounds, four ounces and measured 19.25 inches. Her parents are Chris and Isis Scott, and she was delivered by Dr. Blake DeWitt. Pictured are, from left, student trainee Jaqueline Mercado, charge nurse Connie Beltran, proud parents Chris and Isis Scott, and OB nurses Faith Salas and Sorrele McWhorter.

Two students from Perryton High School have been named to the Texas All-State Choir and Texas AllState Band. PHS senior Samuel De Santiago, a bass, pictured at left, qualified for the 2026 All-State Choir, while senior Samuel Saucedo Pasillas, who plays bass clarinet, qualified for the 2026 All-State Band. Performances of the All-State Choir and AllState Band will be held as part of the Texas Music Educators Association’s Clinic/Convention Feb. 1114.

Tea party set at Museum of the Plains The Museum of the Plains invites parents, grandparents, children, grandchildren, and more to an old-fashioned Afternoon Tea Party on Sunday, Jan. 18, from 1-3 p.m. Enjoy tea, punch, finger sandwiches, cookies, and good company. Admission is free.
