Six candidates file for office

Several candidates have already filed for one of the offices open on the Perryton City Council, the Perryton ISD Board of Trustees and the Ochiltree County Hospital District Board of Directors.Filing opened on Jan. 14, and will run through Friday, Feb. 3, at 5 p.m.

City council okays utility increases

The Perryton City Council set several fee increases and the next general election at its meeting Tuesday.The council voted to increase water and sewer rates, effective with the Feb. 1 billing.Residential and commercial water rates will increase to $15.50 for the first 4,000 gallons and $4.

At the Ochiltree County Junior Livestock Show and Sale on Jan. 16-17, Buckle Awards were presented to the exhibitors showing the animals that won Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion for their breed.

Parents, kids, and grandparents of all ages stopped by the Museum of the Plains on Sunday, Jan. 18, to enjoy an old-fashioned afternoon tea party. Party-goers picked out fancy hats to wear and enjoyed tea, punch, finger sandwiches, cookies, and plenty of good company.

Junior livestock show tops $284,000

The Ochiltree County Junior Livestock Show and Sale had another successful weekend. The sale totaled $284,317.75, which included $84,440 in add-on contributions. That was an increase from last year’s sale by more than $8,900.Showing the grand champion steer was Jake Schickedanz.

DSHS expanding anti-rabies program to El Paso area

DSHS is expanding its 32nd annual Oral Rabies Vaccination Program to the El Paso area while continuing its aerial bait distribution along the Texas-Mexico border. The rabies vaccine baits will be distributed by hand in targeted areas around El Paso.
